US Task Force to Discuss Cuba Internet Issues in December - State Department

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 30th November, 2018) The US Department of State said in a statement on Thursday that a public-private advisory body it sponsors will hold a meeting on internet issues in Cuba in December.

"The Cuba Internet Task Force will hold its second public meeting on Thursday, December 6, 2018," the statement said on Thursday.

The State Department explained the Cuba Internet Task Force is composed of representatives from the US government and non-governmental organizations.

"[The Task Force] aims to promote the free and unregulated flow of information into and within Cuba," the statement said.

The advisory body examines the technological challenges and opportunities for expanding internet access and independent media in Cuba, the report added.

The Cuba Internet Task Force publicly met for the first time in February and shortly after its meeting the first mobile internet in Cuba was tested in August.

Internet in Cuba has mostly been available in special public spots via Wi-Fi and in some homes and agencies via a modem, according to the release.
