Overview Of FBR Tax Profiling System In Pakistan

Pakistan is a country of 200 million people, where only 1.8% of people are paying taxes. From which many of them show their income is less than the tax scale, and some of them pay less amount of tax. Only 950,000 people are there who are paying their actual tax amount according to their rate of income.

The government of Pakistan launched an online portal in 2019. Where data of all the citizens have been correlated from different databases, i.e., NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority), that portal consists of all types of data of specific citizens; from their family history to their income, from their travel history to their properties, from their bank account to their credit cards, all sort of data has been enlisted in that portal.

The government launched an online tax profiling system for the ease and awareness of citizens and for their encouragement towards paying tax. According to many people and politicians, this portal is not pursuing privacy settlement for their data. On the argument between people and the FBR (Federal Board Of Revenue) chief, people have shown the fear of their data being stolen or has public exposure.

Where, on the other hand, FBR is defending this portal and marking it to be a safe place for data of citizens.

According to the government, any Pakistani national holding (CNIC/NICOP) can register himself in this FBR profiling system by using the internet and smart gadgets like computers, cellphones after undergoing some verification process.

Any of the citizens, by entering their CNIC/NICOP number paying a fee of Rs 500, and replying to some personal information, can be able to see his tax profile. According to their privacy policy, citizens can only access their profile; no one can access someone else's profile as it undergoes through the verification process.
