ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jan, 2019 ) :Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and Agha Khan Foundation of Pakistan have inked a Memorandum of Understanding to improve food and livelihood security of the people living in rural areas of Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral.
Chairman PARC, dr Yusuf Zafar and Chief Executive Officer of Khan Foundation of Pakistan, Akhtar Iqbal signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations, said a press release here on Monday.
Under the agreement both the organization agreed for enhancing mutual collaboration and coordination for improving the food security and promoting livelihood opportunities for people living in these areas.
The agreement was based on the shared objectives of sustainable socio-economic development in rural areas by implementing joint activities, as well as creating important synergies and opportunities through closer relations.
Under the agreement, PARC and Agha Khan Foundation would undertake joint efforts to foster the development of agriculture, livestock and aquaculture sectors in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral (GBC) to make use of the comparative advantages of each institution in areas like investments in community productive infrastructure, irrigation, community based water management, mountain agriculture, small scale agro processing, climate change and finance.
As well as they were agreed for strengthening the small holder's institutions and promotingprivate sector participation in agriculture value chains across Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral.
