Agriculture Mechanization and Research Institute (AMRI) and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) have developed a modern machine that kills pink bollworm from the remains of cotton crop in the field.
A demonstration of the machine was organized at MNSUA farm here Wednesday that showed successful results, MNSUA spokesman said.
Chairman MNSUA engineering and technology department Dr Alamgir Akhtar Khan said that the machine uproots cotton sticks from the field and put them into shredder that converts them into tiny pieces leaving no room for survival of pink bollworm.
The process would keep the crop safe against pink bollworm attack next year and would also increase organic material in soil, he added. Moreover, it would also free the cotton sown land for in time wheat cultivation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asif Ali,Syed Ibn-e-Abbas, progressive farmer Mumtaz Khan Manais, Dr. Abid Ali, Dr, Shafqat Saeed, engineer Ghulam Siddiq, Dr. Ghulam Abdul Ghaffar, andagriculture scientists were present.
