Experts' Working Group To Promote Cotton Research In Balochistan

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2019 ) :Director General Agriculture Research Balochistan Dr. Muhammad Javed Tareen said here on Thursday that a joint working group of cotton experts from Punjab and Balochistan would be formed soon to bring improvement in cotton research and cultivation in Balochistan.

DG Research Balochistan, accompanying DG agriculture extension Balochistan Inam-ul-haq said this while addressing a ceremony of cotton scientists at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan.

Dr. Javed Tareen said there existed opportunities in Balochistan for cotton research and development and underlined the need for effective liaison between experts from both provinces at provincial level.

DG agriculture extension Balochistan Inamul Haq said that CCRI Multan can play an important role in guiding and training Balochistan farmers to get good cotton yield.

He added that Balochistan agriculture department would take practical steps to benefit from expertise of CCRI Multan scientists.

He said that all out efforts would be made to increase cotton sown area in Balochistan.

Earlier, CCRI Multan director Dr. Zahid Mahmood gave a detailed briefing to agriculture officials from Balochistan on objectives and achievements of the cotton research body.

He promised to hold training programmes for guidance and training of Balochistan farmers and reiterated commitment to make all out efforts to meet the 15 million bales cotton production target given by Prime Minister Imran Khan for the year 2019.

He said that new varieties were being developed at CCRI Multan while keeping in view the change in weather behaviour.

CCRI Multan cotton experts, Director Cotton Research Station Dr. Sagheer Ahmad, and regional technical manager of a multinational company Habibur Rahman attended the meeting.

The Balochistan agriculture officials also visited different parts of CCRI Multan, experimental fields and witnessed demonstration of mechanized picking of cotton.
