According to Poland's RMF FM radio station, farmers took this step to attract the government's attention to the problem of African swine fever virus (ASFV) and its consequences fr the country's pig farmers.

The farmers, in particular, demanded state compensations for the slaughter of pigs in relation to the ASFV threat.

The police considered the protest action as illegal since it had not been authorized by the country's authorities.

France has seen a wave of mass protests since mid-November, when the so-called yellow vest protesters � named after the obligatory attribute of French drivers � took to the streets to rally against rising fuel prices and a planned hike in tax on diesel and carbon fuels. The yellow vest rallies in France have been marked by violent clashes with police officers, who have used tear gas and rubber bullets against the protesters.
