Farmers Must Stay Vigilant During Rains

Punjab Agriculture Department advised farmers to pay special attention to the standing crops during rains.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jul, 2018 ) :Punjab Agriculture Department advised farmers to pay special attention to the standing crops during rains.

A spokesman for the department said Thursday that farmers should monitor weather predictions to make their irrigation plans for standing crops accordingly.

Small water reservoirs should be constructed at farm level, he added. He suggested that growers should drain out water from cotton and vegetables fields immediately as these crops are very sensitive to water.

The spokesman said Provincial Disaster Management Authority had issued warning that from July 12 to 15, more rain thunder- showers with gusty winds were expected at scattered places in Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Gujranwala divisions), and also at isolated places of Sahiwal and Multan.

Keeping in view weather alerts, farmers should adopt necessary precautionary measures to avoid any lossed, he added.

During monsoon, harmful insects, particularly sucking insects, remain more active. Therefore, farmers were advised to remain in contact with the pest warning field staff to control the attacks.
