Farmers Must Submit Applications For Gunny Bags Till 20th: Punjab Government

The Punjab government has decided to procure four million tonne of wheat at a cost of about Rs130 billion to ensure financial stability of farmers.

The food department sources told this while talking to APP on Wednesday. Farmers had been asked to submit their applications till April 20 to get gunny bags, they said, adding that growers should visit wheat procurement centres of their respective areas from 8:00am to 4:00pm to submit their application in this regard.
The sources said that farmers should write their contact number besides providing photocopy of their CNIC and after submitting the application must get its receipt. Almost 382 purchase centres had been set up to facilitate farmers, they added.
Issuance of gunny bags will tentatively start from April 24 and the process would continue for almost 30 days. It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had already approved the wheat procurement policy and wheat would be purchased at the rate of Rs 1,300 per muand (40kg).
During the meeting of the Punjab cabinet in which the CM approved the wheat procurement policy said that the procedure of the distribution of gunny bags would be transparent and farmers be given every possible facility at the wheat procurement centres.
He said with the blessings of Allah Almighty and hard work of farmers, excellent wheat crop had been produced and per acre wheat production had increased due to subsidy and other measures taken by the Punjab government.
He said rights of farmers would be defended during the procurement of wheat and nobody would be allowed to deprive farmers of their due rights. The chief minister said the distribution of gunny bags should be made more transparent with the use of IT and digital monitoring of wheat procurement campaign would also be done.
He said he would take stern action against concerning officials and the administration in case of any complaint.
