MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) Russia is interested in increasing export of grain to Nigeria as well as introducing exports of meat and fish products to the West African country, Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the Russian minister met with his Nigerian counterpart Audu Innocent Ogbeh.
"The Nigerian market remains an important and promising one for us. The Russian side is interested in increasing the export of grain crops and mineral fertilizers. We also consider exporting meat, fishery products and aquaculture as possible areas of bilateral trade," Patrushev said, as quoted in the ministry's statement.
The agricultural industry has always been the leading issue of cooperation between Russia and Nigeria. According to the Russian Agriculture Ministry's figures, bilateral turnover in agriculture has increased 60 percent in the first nine months of 2018 and exceeded $330 million. At the same time, Russian exports of wheat and frozen fish grew 80 percent to $310 million over the same period.
