Russian Agriculture Ministry Raises 2018 Wheat Harvest Forecast By 6% To 68-69Mln Tonnes

The Russian Agriculture Ministry has raised its forecast for the country's gross wheat production in 2018 by about 6 percent to 68-69 million tonnes, an official from the ministry said on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th October, 2018) The Russian Agriculture Ministry has raised its forecast for the country's gross wheat production in 2018 by about 6 percent to 68-69 million tonnes, an official from the ministry said on Wednesday.
"[The wheat harvest will be] in the range of 68-69 million tonnes," Petr Chekmarev, the director of the ministry's Department of Plant Production, Mechanization, Chemicalization and Plant Protection, told reporters on the sidelines of the Golden Autumn agricultural exhibition in Moscow.
The ministry's previous forecast for gross wheat production was 64.4 million tonnes.
The ministry expects grain harvest in Russia to fall to about 106 million tonnes in 2018 due to unfavorable weather conditions. In 2017, Russia enjoyed a record-high harvest of 135.4 million tonnes, including 85.9 million tonnes of wheat, while in 2016 it reached 120.7 million tonnes.
