Russia's greenhouse vegetables harvest is expected to grow by 18 percent to 1.3 million tonnes in 2019, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday
"According to the Russian Agriculture Ministry's forecast, Russian agriculture companies will harvest around 1.3 million tonnes of glass-raised vegetables in 2019. This will exceed last year's record-high results by over 200,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, within the next five years, greenhouse vegetables production may double compared to 2018 and reach 2 million tonnes a year," the statement read.
The ministry said that it did not expect growth in Russian greenhouse vegetables prices to exceed inflation rate in 2019, given the planned production boost.
"As of the beginning of the year, the prices increase for fruits and vegetables was mainly registered in retail chains. As for agriculture manufacturers, either slight increase or even a decrease in prices was registered. price stability will be guaranteed by state support measures that are being implemented, along with other things," the statement said.
Russia's agricultural production is expected to grow by 1-1.5 percent in 2019.
