Sindh Agriculture Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahu Wednesday claimed that seven sugar mills have begun cane crushing while 15 others ignited boilers for sugar production in Sindh.
The provincial government was making all out efforts to ensure the procurement of cane on fixed rate and implementation on Sugar Mills Act in letter and spirit for which Cane Commissioner Sindh has been engaged round the clock monitoring of the process, he said.
Talking to media persons here at the office of the Director General Research Sindh at Agriculture University Tando Jam, the minister said the provincial government was duty bound to implement the orders of the court accordingly and on the directives of the Supreme Court, the government would initiate action against grabbing of land.
Responding to a question, the minister said Pakistan Peoples Party fully believed in the democratic norms and always ready to extend support to all such efforts which would be better for the country, people and the democracy.
Similarly, the PPP will oppose the anti-democratic moves and conspiracies against the people and the democracy, he added.
Responding to another question about the construction of dams, the minister replied that PPP has clear policy in that regard.
He said according to research, the sea intruded 1.8 million acres land of Sujawal and Badin districts due to no release of water from the downstream of the Indus River. As a result of water shortage, the Kharif and Rabi crops have been badly affected in Sindh, he said and added that due to increase in prices of fertilizers and gas, the agriculture of the province received negative impacts.
The minister said that the provincial government was making efforts to promote the agriculture sector on modern lines so that the growers could achieve maximum production with minimum cost. If we wanted to compete the international markets there is needto lower the cost of produces.
