The government was not charging sales tax on DAP to keep prices of phosphorous fertilizers stable, he said in a statement issued by the Agriculture Department. He said that increase in Dollar rate would increase prices of pesticides and fertilizers and added that the subsidy would be a helping hand to farmers in such a situation.
He said that field formations of agriculture departments have been told to achieve cotton sowing target till May 31 and farmers were also being given guidance on delaying first spray application on cotton to avoid unnecessary costs.
He said that Cotton Mission 2025 was a road map to achieve 20 million cotton bales production in Punjab by 2025. He said that a cotton council was also being formed with representation from all stakeholders including farmers so as to finalize a framework to enable cotton regain its lost glory.
He said that local textile industry is given permission of importing cotton only in accordance with their needs and not more than that so as to protect the interests of the local farmers.
