ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2018 ) :Ministry of Climate Change Monday said the wheat production has decreased due to negative changes in climate conditions.Talking to APP, an official said wheat production has decreased due to high temperature and low water availability during early stages of wheat production.
He said Ministry of Climate Change and World Food Programme (WFP) have jointly conducted the study to analyze the impact of climate variability on food security in Pakistan. "The aim to identify vulnerabilities associated with the agro-ecological zones and provides a set of recommendations for practitioners and policy makers," he said.
This study will lead to extreme weather events such as floods and droughts thus impacting the food security of the country.
For instance, the 2010 flood impacted close to 20 million people in the country and had a devastating impact on livelihoods, he added.Furthermore, he said there has been an increase in risk of extreme weather events that have caused frequent climate induced disasters (floods, droughts, cyclones, extreme high/low temperatures, etc.), some of which are of high magnitude causing large-scale damage to lives, livelihoods and food security.
