Caught Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea

He held the blanket tightly around his shoulders as he went
on the roof. The night was dark and grave just like his life these days. He
looked up into the clear sky and thought of a time when he used to come up here
with his son. For quite a time he kept staring at nothing, lost in thoughts of
his own miseries with tears gushing down his eyes. He was a strong man but not
strong enough to endure this duty. Thinking where life has put him he closed
those already damped eyes and prayed to get up from this nightmare. He wanted
to scream and yell he knew it will tear his family and his heart apart. It was
too much for him to handle, his head would blow up from the pressure and
distress he was going through. He had this thought of killing himself but it
was utterly stupid, he had other children and wife to take care of and killing
himself would not save his son.
He thought back to that dreadful day in court where his son
was brought, drenched in the blood of girl's innocence and murder. He still
hear those voices in court when his son was given the death penalty, the voices
of anger and revenge from the victim's family and the voices of people pointing
at him "What will the executioner do? Kill his son or go against the
law?"
He was a man of rules and principles.
It was his respect,
honor and everything he has always stood up against his own blood. His son, for
he has committed an unforgivable crime, a crime he should be punished for. He
loved his son, always given him everything, maybe it was his entire fault. He
didn't go visit him in jail he was furious and ashamed of the unforgiveable sin
his son did but he was more ashamed of himself, of what he has raised.
He sat down under the dark sky and thought of his wife and her
muffled cries every night since that day. It kills him thinking he might also
lose her with their son.
He curled himself on the cold floor with the life of his son
going through his eyes. Tonight he feels old, helpless and scared of what
tomorrow brings. He can't kill his own son nor can let injustice be done to
that poor girl. He was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Tired of
his own thoughts he closed his eyes to the moment which is yet to come.
