Russia and Japan increased the bilateral trade by 18 percent in January-October 2018 and are going to continue the efforts in this area, the intergovernmental commission, co-chaired by Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, said on Tuesday.

TOKYO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Russia and Japan increased the bilateral trade by 18 percent in January-October 2018 and are going to continue the efforts in this area, the intergovernmental commission, co-chaired by Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, said on Tuesday.

"We really have a trade growth amounting to 18 percent," Oreshkin said.

According to the Russian minister, Moscow and Tokyo have a number of initiatives aimed at boosting the bilateral trade and economic as well as investment cooperation.

"We are ready to jointly work, promote these initiatives, so that they will bring specific results," Oreshkin noted.

Kono also expressed a wish to support the positive dynamics of the bilateral economic cooperation.

"We want to further support these positive dynamics through the mutual cooperation," Kono said.

The Russian-Japanese relations have been improving for several years with the countries actively developing their bilateral economic cooperation, including on the disputed Southern Kuril Islands.
