BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th December, 2018) Beijing is calling on Tokyo to prevent any discrimination against Chinese companies operating in Japan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday after reports emerged that Japan had decided to stop buying equipment from the Chinese Huawei and ZTE telecom companies.
Earlier in the day, the Japanese NHK broadcaster reported that cybersecurity experts from several Japanese government agencies had agreed on the new public procurement rules, which practically rule out the possibility of buying Huawei and ZTE equipment. However, the Chinese authorities did not explicitly name the companies under consideration.
"We took note that the Japanese authorities had agreed on new public procurement criteria today .
.. The Chinese side demands that the Japanese authorities ensure a fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies," Chinese ministry spokesman Lu Kang said.
Huawei company has faced suspicions in the United States and several other countries that its equipment could be used by China for spying. Huawei has rejected the allegations.
Huawei's financial director Meng Wanzhou was arrested on December 1 in Vancouver to be handed over to the United States where she is suspected of fraudulent activities to bypass US sanctions on Iran.
