SIMFEROPOL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th March, 2019) Crimean sea ports intend to conclude an agreement on cooperation with the Syrian port of Latakia, Georgy Muradov, the Crimean deputy prime minister and the region's permanent representative to the Russian president, told Sputnik on Saturday, amid the fifth anniversary of the peninsula's reunification with Russia.

"We plan to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Crimean sea ports and the Syrian port of Latakia. It is a fairly large Syrian port with good multi-profile terminals.

In general, there is everything that is required to import Crimean goods and export the Syrian ones," Muradov said.

In October 2018, a delegation from Crimea visited Damascus and held talks with top Syrian officials and businesspeople. During the visit, the two countries signed a memorandum on economic cooperation, which, in particular, envisaged opening a trading house and a shipping company, organizing mutual deliveries of goods, and possibly organizing direct flights between Syria and Crimea.
