Putin got in touch with Vysotsk from St. Petersburg, while Leonid Mikhelson, the chairman of the management board of Novatek gas giant, Andrey Akimov, chairman of the board at Gazprombank, and Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko got in touch from the territory of the plant.
"The plant is ready to start the shipment. Let us start," Mikhelson said to the president.
Putin gave a positive response allowing to start the shipment.
"There is no doubt that the plant has a good future. The global LNG market is developing very rapidly and actively. The demand is growing steadily both in our country and in the world.
I want to emphasize that Russia will be consistently increasing gas liquefaction capacities in order to occupy a worthy niche in this area," Putin said.
According to the president, the second unit of the LNG plant with a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes of LNG per year will be launched in 2020.
The plant is located in the port of Vysotsk, Leningrad Region, and it is the first medium-scale LNG plant in the Baltic region.
The plant plans to supply LNG to the domestic market for production of gas engine fuel and for distributing gas to consumers in areas that are remote from centralized gas supply systems. The LNG can be also delivered to the countries of Northern Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic region. The capacity of the first unit is 600,000 tonnes of LNG per year.
