Dutch gas network operator Gasunie said Friday that the Netherlands need not see shortages in winter if Russian gas flow stops for a year, provided other imports stay high and consumption low
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th October, 2022) Dutch gas network operator Gasunie said Friday that the Netherlands need not see shortages in winter if Russian gas flow stops for a year, provided other imports stay high and consumption low.
"Even if both Nord Stream 1 pipelines turn out to be unavailable for a longer period, this need not have any consequences for the security of supply in the Netherlands in the coming winter," it said.
The utility, which owns a 9% stake in Nord Stream 1, said it was informed on September 26 about gas leaks in both strings of the pipeline. Nord Stream 1 has not delivered gas to Europe since August.
Gasunie said that the extent of the damage could only be determined after the pipeline was inspected and that was not possible yet. The European Union believes the gas link was sabotaged, while Russia says this was an act of terror.
