CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Egypt plans to end imports of liquefied natural gas this fall and rely on own production, the country's minister of petroleum and mineral resources said.
"Starting in October, Egypt will stop all gas imports and achieve self-sufficiency.
It will begin exporting gas in January 2019," Tarek El-Molla said in an interview to the Al Watan newspaper.
There have been plans to transform Egypt into a regional hub for LNG production by next year. A Zohr offshore field in Egypts Mediterranean waters is estimated to hold 30 trillion cubic meters of gas and is one of the largest in the sea.
