European Commission Received Italy's Response on Draft Budget - Spokesman

The European Commission has received Rome's response to Brussels' letter listing concerns over Italy's draft budget, spokesman for the commission Margaritis Schinas said Monday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd October, 2018) The European Commission has received Rome's response to Brussels' letter listing concerns over Italy's draft budget, spokesman for the commission Margaritis Schinas said Monday.

On Thursday, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici handed the commission's letter to Italian Finance Minister Giovanni Tria after the new Italian government proposed a budget with higher deficit than the previous administration had been planning to do.

Rome had to deliver its response by Monday.

"I can confirm, in fact, that the response of the Italian authorities has just arrived," Schinas said at a press briefing.

Moscovici on Friday stressed that he would like to maintain "calm" dialogue between the European Union and Italy and to find a solution despite any disagreements.

The commission told Rome in a letter that it found the planned spending too high and expressed concern over the country's public debt.
