The fire at an oil refinery located in Moscow's south-eastern Kapotnya District has been contained, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, a representative of Moscow emergency services told Sputnik that two fire spots had been registered at the refinery, with jet fires raging at a height of over 10 meters (32.8 feet).

"An MLCO [Monitoring and Laboratory Control Office of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry] laboratory is heading for the location in order to measure the MAC [maximum allowable concentration] of harmful agents in the atmospheric air. The fire is contained, as of 8:20 a.m. [local time, 05:20 GMT]. The washing-down is currently being conducted," the statement read.

The ministry confirmed�earlier that there were no casualties and fatalities, adding that there was no threat for the residents of the district and for its ecology.

A representative of the Moscow department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry told Sputnik that the cause of the fire had not been established yet.

"We need to get inside to reveal the cause. The fire has not been contained yet," he said.

The representative specified that the cracker heater was still burning.

A representative of the oil refinery confirmed to Sputnik the fact of the fire, saying that "a section of a catalytic cracking unit caught fire."

"The automated industrial safety system of the plant responded properly, the unit stopped operating," he said.

He went on to say that firefighters and the Emergency Situations Ministry troops had managed to prevent the fire from spreading.
