MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) The total amount of foreign countries' debt to Russia totaled over $39 billion in February, according to the Russian Finance Ministry's document on the issuance of sovereign Eurobonds released on Thursday.

The Russian Finance Ministry collected on Thursday investors' bids for new dollar-denominated Eurobonds rhat will mature in March 2035 and placed additional euro-denominated Eurobonds maturing in 2025.

"As of February 1, 2019, the total amount of Russia's claims against foreign borrowers (including claims against the financial assets of the former Soviet Union) was about $39.

2 billion," the document said.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia assumed obligations to service the foreign debts of the Soviet government to foreign creditors, but also received the right to demand repayment of debts on the government-issued loans. However, in most cases, the debt on such claims is noncollectable, according to the ministry's document.
