Russia's energy giant Gazprom expects the annual demand for Russian gas in Europe to be from 194 to 204 billion cubic meters (6.9-7.2 trillion cubic feet) in the medium term, with the company hoping to surpass the 2018 record-high exports this year, Elena Burmistrova, the director general of Gazprom Export, said on Thursday
BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) Russia's energy giant Gazprom expects the annual demand for Russian gas in Europe to be from 194 to 204 billion cubic meters (6.9-7.2 trillion cubic feet) in the medium term, with the company hoping to surpass the 2018 record-high exports this year, Elena Burmistrova, the director general of Gazprom Export, said on Thursday.
"In the medium term, we expect the demand for Russian gas in Europe to range from 194 [billion cubic meters] to 204 billion cubic meters per year, depending on weather conditions," Burmistrova said at the conference "Prospects for Russia-EU Energy Cooperation: Gas Aspects" in Berlin.
She noted that in 2018, "even against the backdrop of falling gas consumption in Europe, Gazprom managed to increase its share to a record 36.7 percent, which corresponds to 201.8 billion cubic meters of gas."
Other producers of pipeline gas, meanwhile, saw a fall in exports in 2018, according to Burmistrova
When asked to project volume of Gazprom's exports to Europe in 2019, Burmistrova said that the company "would like to exceed the 2018 results, but it depends not only on us, but also on weather conditions."
