German Lawmaker Slams US Ambassador's Sanction Threats Over Nord Stream 2

BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) Statements by US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell on risks of US sanctions on German companies implementing the Nord Stream 2 project are unacceptable, Klaus Ernst, a member of the German Bundestag and the head of the parliament's energy committee, said Thursday.

In January, Grenell sent a letter to a number of German companies warning them of risks of US sanctions in relation to Nord Stream 2.

"The United States wants to sell its gas on the European market and uses measures that are not always pleasant. These measures are directed not only against Russia, but also deliberately target Europeans, for example, German companies that participate in Nord Stream 2. Such actions of the US ambassador to Germany are simply unacceptable and sound as if we are a colony of the United States," the lawmaker said at a conference on the Russian-EU energy cooperation.
