Greek Business Notes Boost of Economic Ties With Russia - Trade Chamber

Cooperation between Greek and Russian businesses is growing with Moscow's increasing interest in investing in the south Mediterranean country, head of the Greek-Russian Trade Chamber Dimitris Bakolas told Sputnik on Tuesday.

ATHENS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 04th December, 2018) Cooperation between Greek and Russian businesses is growing with Moscow's increasing interest in investing in the south Mediterranean country, head of the Greek-Russian Trade Chamber Dimitris Bakolas told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"The interest of Russian businesses in Greece, as an opportunity for cooperation, has recently revived. Particularly, I was asked by Russian Railways and several private companies to help with business. Two-three large investments took place, the tourism [flow] is increasing," Bakolas said.

He pointed out that the recent deterioration of Greek-Russian political relations had no impact on bilateral business ties.

"It seems that the deterioration of relations with Europe and, in particular, this story around Greece has not frightened Russian business.

And the Greeks are also constantly trying to find ways to work with Russia. Even those who have products that came under sanctions are also trying find a way to cooperate. One of them is the creation of joint ventures and many [business people] are considering this," Bakolas noted.

The head of the trade chamber added that he was optimistic about the prospects for development of bilateral Greek-Russian relations.

In July, Greece decided to expel two Russian diplomats over allegations of their attempts to sabotage the Greek-Macedonian talks on renaming the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to the Republic of North Macedonia. Russia responded by expelling two Greek diplomats.
