Harmonised standards for cosmetics finalised

Harmonised standards for all cosmetic have been finalised and sent to the National Standards Committee (NSC) for final approval

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jan, 2019 ) :Harmonised standards for all cosmetic have been finalised and sent to the National Standards Committee (NSC) for final approval.

A two-day meeting of Technical Committee on Cosmetics concluded here Tuesday with marvelous achievement at Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) office, which was chaired by Dr Abdul Maalik, chairman committee, Ferozuddin secretary, Director PSQCA's department SDC Dr Shehzad Afzal, Deputy Director Asghar Ali, Assistant Directors Numan Khaliq, Muhammad Bilal, Chairman Pakistan Cosmetics Manufacturers Association (PCMA) Mian Muhammad Shafiq and all stake-holders from four provinces of the country attended it.

The meeting finalised common standards for hair oil, beauty cream, hair removing cream, moisturising cream, nail polish and lipstick for whole country and a draft has been sent to the NSC for final approval.

After approval, the common standards would be implemented for all cosmetic products and no one would be permitted to manufacture and sell the illegal and sub-standard cosmetics.

Chairman Committee Abdul Maalik said that all grievances of stakeholdres have been finished and the PCMA has assured of its full cooperation in elimination of fake and illegal cosmetics from the market.

Secretary Ferozzudin said that this was a milestone in the country's history, and common standards would be helpful for the industry.

Chairman PCMA Mian Shafiq hailed the PSQCA role for protecting rights of the industry and hoped that cooperation would continue in future as well.

Director General PSQCA Abdul Aleem Memon also termed it a tremendous achievement for the country, saying, now only PSQCA-licensed products would be allowed in the market.

He said that with the help of the PCMA, the PSQCA would continue its crackdown on illegal cosmetic products and he hoped that the department would eliminate fake products from the market. He said that standardisation in the country was a top priority of the department.
