BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei expressed hope on Tuesday that the US and Canadian governments would soon agree to release Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, who is currently detained in Vancouver.
Earlier in the day, it was revealed that the United States would soon send an official request to Canada to extradite Meng. The deadline for filing the official request is January 30 60 days after Meng was arrested in Vancouver at the request of the US authorities on suspicions of violating Washington's anti-Iran sanctions.
"Huawei hopes that the US and the Canadian governments would be able to make Miss Meng free again as soon as possible.
We also hope for a fair decision by the US and the Chinese judicial systems," the company said in a statement released by the Global Times daily newspaper.
Huawei added that it was closely following the developments in the situation around Meng.
"Huawei respects the laws of all the countries where it carries out commercial activities, including laws and regulations of the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union," the statement read.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry warned earlier in the day that it would retaliate with responsive measures if the United States sent the extradition request.
