NAIROBI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Aug, 2017 ) : Kenya has planned to use the World Expo 2017 which is taking place in Kazakhstan to boost exports to Central Asia, officials said on Tuesday.
Export Promotion Council CEO Peter Biwott told a media briefing in Nairobi that the Expo 2017 Astana will provide an ideal platform for Kenya to showcase its products to the central Asian states.
"We are going to refocus our efforts on expanding our exports to economies in the Central Asia region including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan," Biwott said. "Our analysis indicates that potential exports to the region include footwear, insecticides, textiles, apparels, garments, horticulture, tobacco products, fish, beauty products, vegetables and animals oils," he added.
This year Kazakhan is hosting the Mini World Expo, which runs from June 10 to September 10.
Over 115 countries are participating in the event and are showcasing their innovations, primarily in the field of energy.
The CEO said that Kenya's participation will also present an opportunity to undertake a market research so as to understand the Central Asian region and structurally execute market diversification.
EPC said that it will be hosting Kenya Week from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 during the World Expo. "We have also lined up a business forum where trade, investment and tourism opportunities will be presented in an effort to interest Kazakhstan investors on what Kenya has to offer," Biwott said.
According to the export agency, Kenya's exports to Kazakhstan in 2016 were valued at 47 million U.S. Dollars and mostly consisted of tea.
