Kremlin Responds To US Demand For More Europe-Bound Gas Transit Through Ukraine

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the call of the US State Department on Gazprom to increase gas supplies through Ukraine to Europe on Wednesday by saying that it was impossible to transit gas without selling it.

US State Department spokesman Amos Hochstein has demanded that Russia increase its gas supplies to Europe through Ukraine.

The US official said Gazprom's refusal to reserve additional volumes of gas transit through the Ukrainian territory for October was a matter of concern.

"I have no doubt that Gazprom and the Gazprom specialists will be ready to explain to Mr. Hochstein the essence of what is happening, and most importantly, to explain a very simple truth � gas is first sold, then it is produced, and only then it is transported and transited. It is impossible to transit gas without selling it," Peskov told reporters.
