BANJA LUKA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) Russia hopes to sell liquefied natural gas (LNG) it will produce in a Bosnian Serb town to neighboring Serbia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
Lavrov travelled on Friday to Banja Luka, the capital of Bosnia's Republika Srpska.
He told reporters that in December Russia's energy giant Gazprom agreed with Gas-Res, a local gas major, to set up a joint venture in Zvornik on the border with Serbia that would build an LNG plant.
"We hope this liquefied natural gas will be in demand not only in Republika Srpska but also in neighboring Serbia," Lavrov told reporters at a briefing.
Bosnia has been ethnically divided since the end of a bloody Bosnia War in 1995. It consists of two autonomous entities, a Serbian and a Bosnian part. Russia historically has strong ties with Serbs in the Balkans.
