Libya's NOC Chief Says 95% of Country's Oil Production May Be Lost Due to Ongoing Conflict

Head of Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanalla said on Saturday that 95 percent of the country's oil production might be lost due to the ongoing military conflict

JEDDAH (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th May, 2019) Head of Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanalla said on Saturday that 95 percent of the country's oil production might be lost due to the ongoing military conflict.

"[Current Production is] 1.3 mb/d [millions of barrels per day]. If the situation continues like this, I'm afraid that maybe 95 percent of country's oil production may be lost," Sanalla told reporters.

Tensions flared up in Libya in early April. Back then, the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar launched an offensive to retake Tripoli from the forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA). The LNA has already recaptured a number of settlements on its way to the capital.

Libya is currently divided into two parts the internationally recognized GNA headed by Fayez Sarraj in Tripoli and a parallel administration allied to Haftar in the east of the country.
