The launch of a terminal for the reception and regasification of liquefied natural gas in Bahrain that, in particular, expects Russia's Gazprom and Rosneft to deliver LNG to the facility, is expected to take place by mid-February 2019, Canada's Teekay LNG Partners that has a 30-percet share in the project said in its financial report.
The company, in particular, notes that the construction of the terminal in Bahrain continues, however, "the launch is expected by mid-February 2019."
Bahrain LNG WLL is engaged in the construction of the LNG terminal in the Bahraini port city of Al Hidd. The list of its shareholders involves Oil and Gas Holding Company of Bahrain (30 percent), Teekay LNG Partners (30 percent), samsung C&T (16 percent) and Gulf Investment Corporation (24 percent).
The latter company is owned by Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Katar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The terminal's capacity will be 800 million cubic feet of gas per day or 6 million tonnes of LNG per year.
In April 2017, Bahrain's Minister of Oil Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said that Manama was negotiating LNG deliveries with Gazprom and Rosneft. In June 2017, Bahraini Ambassador to Russia Ahmed Saati told Sputnik that Manama expected Russian LNG supplies to begin in early 2019.
Al Khalifa later said that Gazprom could deliver up to 6 million tonnes of LNG.
On Monday, Al Khalifa told Sputnik that Bahrain continues talks with Gazprom and Rosneft on potential import of liquefied natural gas. Gazprom and Bahrain signed a memorandum of understanding on LNG cooperation in September 2016.
