The further economic development of the Middle East consists in unleashing the potential of the youth by creating decent employment for them, Khalid Rumaihi, the chief executive at Bahrain Economic Development Board, said on Tuesday at the World Economic Forum (WEF) session
"The big subject in our part of the world [is job creation]. Four hundred million people, 50 percent [of them] under the age of 30, that is an opportunity, these are millennials. Some aging economies in the world Japan and Europe they complain about aging population, [while] we have young population, we can unleash that potential," Rumaihi said.
He added, however, that the challenge lay in the expectations of the youth, with the youngsters seeking high quality of life similar to that in developed countries.
"We have to talk about job creation for jobs that our nationals will want, will aspire to," Rumaihi stated.
The four-day WEF kicked off on Tuesday in the mountainous Swiss resort city of Davos. It is routinely attended by political leaders, central bankers and chief executives.
