Moscow and Seoul are developing their economic cooperation and actively working together to resolve the ongoing nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday during a meeting with his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in.
"[Moscow and Seoul are actively working] to resolve the main and the most sensitive issue, namely to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue," Putin said.
The Russian president noted that South Korea was one of Russia's key partners in Asia, ranking second in terms of trade in the region after China.
"Last year, [bilateral] trade increased by 23 percent. In the first nine months of this year, it got another 13 percent," Putin said.
In turn, Moon noted that cooperation and contacts between the two countries had been developing at the highest level.
"It is this year that Korean-Russian relations are developing more dynamically than ever in almost all areas, expanding the range of cooperation to the regional level and preserving the values of common peace and prosperity," he stressed.
Moon also expressed hope that the current cooperation dynamics would continue.
"I hope to continue the current dynamics of cooperation between our countries. This will make it possible to achieve our common goal ... to increase turnover to $30 billion and tourist flow to 1 million by 2020," the South Korean president said.
Singapore is hosting the Russia-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit as well as the 13th East Asia Summit this week.
