Oil, Natural Gas Production Nears Pre-Hurricane Levels in Gulf of Mexico - Safety Agency

Oil and natural gas output from fixed platforms and movable rigs in the Gulf of Mexico is nearly back to normal following Hurricane Michael, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Hurricane Response Team said in a report on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th October, 2018) Oil and natural gas output from fixed platforms and movable rigs in the Gulf of Mexico is nearly back to normal following Hurricane Michael, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Hurricane Response Team said in a report on Tuesday.

"From operator reports, it is estimated that approximately 7.7 percent of the current oil production in the Gulf of Mexico remains shut-in," the report said. " It is also estimated that approximately 3.5 percent of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico remains shut-in.

"

In addition, personnel have returned to all of the 687 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and to all previously evacuated rigs, the report said.

Operators began inspecting facilities once the storm passed, and once safety checks are complete, production from remaining undamaged facilities will be brought back on line, it added.

Damage reports have been submitted for three platforms, which may take longer to resume production, according to the report.
