ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2019 ):Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) Thursday took possession of another large range (LR-1) vessel in order to enhance its fleet size to meet local demands.

According to official sources in PNSC, after the induction of Bolan (Ship) a month ago, second LR-1 vessel has been added into the fleet of national flag carrier.

The ship named Kahirpur have the capacity to carry 75k tons of Motor Gasoline (MoGas).

In a tweet, Maritime minister said, "PNSC is rebuilding its fleet and will gradually reduce dependence reliance on foreign vessels".

The minister also congratulated the chairman, the board and management of PNSC for successful acquisition of new ship.

PNSC fleet comprises 10 vessels including five bulk carriers and five oil tankers. It operates 4 Aframax tankers with a total dead weight (DWT) capacity of 681,806 metric tons and contributes significantly to Pakistan's imports and Exports volumes.

On the other hand it operates worldwide earning foreign exchange for the national kitty.

PNSC is engaged in providing carriage services to clients including Pakistan State Oil Company Limited (PSO), National Refinery Limited (NRL), Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL), and Pak Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO).

The national flag carrier intends to engage its managed dry bulk carriers in the transportation of domestic cargo of Pakistan and anticipated coal transportation in the backdrop of upcoming coal-fired power plants.

Furthermore, with the increasing demand of LNG in the power sector, PNSC is developing strategy and striving to enter into the LNG sector of the country to provide efficient sea transportation.

Currently, all imports are being catered by foreign shipping companies.

In long term the ultimate object of corporation is to enhance and maintain deadweight carrying capacity of over 1.5 million tons by 2025, the sources added.
