Qatar To Participate In SPIEF-2020 As Guest Country - Roscongress Foundation

Qatar will participate in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2020 as a guest country, Russia's Roscongress Foundation Russia's major organizer of congress and exhibition events said in a press release on Monday.

The cooperation between Russia and Qatar in trade, investment, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields was discussed at the meeting between Qatari Ambassador to Russia Fahd Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah and Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov.

"During the meeting, particular attention was paid to Qatar's participation in SPIEF 2020 in the status of a guest country," the press release read.

Al-Attiyah said, as quoted in the press release, that the preparation period for the event would allow Qatari companies and investors to bring specific proposals for international business and Russia. He added that the Qatari delegation was also interested in active participation in the business program of the upcoming SPIEF which would be held on June 6-8, 2019.

Qatar is also ready to consider interaction formats at other key Roscongress events, such as the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi and the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, he added.

"The favourable relations that have been established between our two countries will contribute to the expansion of effective cooperation in trade, economy and investment, as well as strengthening partnerships with Qatar's key business associations," the ambassador stressed.

According to the press release, the sides also discussed the possibility of holding a number of guest business events of SPIEF in Qatar in 2019.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, held annually in Russia's second largest city, is a major global platform for communication between business representatives and the discussion of crucial economic issues.
