SHEIKHUPURA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2019 ) :As many as 250 rice growers were trained at a workshop held here to improve per acre yield and to avoid wastage of natural resources such as water.
Rice Partners Pvt Ltd (RPL) in collaboration with Mars food organized the one day training workshop for the rice farmers on Sustainable Rice Production.
The key objective of the training was to educate farmers on Sustainable Rice Production (SRP) standard and enable them to use natural resources in a responsible manners.
Project Manager RPL Zafar Iqbal highlighting the guiding principles of SRP said this is the time that farmers must move forward and utilize the state of the art agricultural technologies.
During the training sessions, the farmers were asked to increase fertility of soil and conduct water and soil test before cultivation.
The farmers were told that they should irrigate water according to need of rice crop, reduce wastage of water and use of advance technology to grow rice.
Senior Adviser of RPL Dr. Riaz Mann trained the farmers on adoption of preventive measures while cultivation of rice.
The rice growers were also taught about the causes and effects of climate change on rice crop.
The trainers suggested methods to reduce the effects of climate change.
They also suggested that farmers must restrained from burning of rice stubbles to keep the environment clean.
Nadeem Iqbal from FFC sensitized the farmers of women empowerment and asked them they must include their women in decision making at household.
