Russia Appeals Against New Trial in Ukraine's $3Bln Debt Case

Russia has appealed in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom the decision to hold a full trial to study the Kiev's argument about the alleged pressure on Ukraine to take a $3-billion loan from Russia, the Russian Finance Ministry said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) Russia has appealed in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom the decision to hold a full trial to study the Kiev's argument about the alleged pressure on Ukraine to take a $3-billion loan from Russia, the Russian Finance Ministry said Wednesday.

"The Finance Ministry believes that the fourth argument of Ukraine must be rejected, along with the other three, without a trial. For this reason, on October 26, 2018, The Law Debenture Trust Corporation plc, which represents the interests of the Russian Federation as the sole owner of the said Eurobond issue by Ukraine, on behalf of the Finance Ministry, filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom against the decision of the Court of Appeal of England on the fourth argument by Ukraine," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the hearings on the appeal are expected to take place in the UK Supreme Court no earlier than in June 2019.
