Russian and Japanese officials have been tasked with bolstering joint economic activity on the Kuril islands, Japanese Prime Minsiter Shinzo Abe said Tuesday after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin
"At today's meeting, president Putin and I instructed relevant people and entities to carry out joint work clearly and swiftly to implement joint economic activity as soon as possible," Abe said at a press conference.
The Japanese prime minister added that he and Putin reaffirmed their commitment to the conclusion of the peace treaty, which the two states have been unable to sign since the end of the World War II because of the dispute over the Kurils.
