Russian Lawmakers Seek Probe Into Apple, Samsung For Slowing Down Devices

The lower house of the Russian parliament passed a bill on Tuesday calling for a probe into Apple and Samsung over the companies' suspected practice of intentionally slowing down their devices for the purposes of promoting sales
Alexander Starovoitov, the author of the motion, said it followed in Italy's footsteps, after the country fined the tech giants millions of Euros last fall for installing software updates that affected smartphone performance.
"We are convinced that this slow-down algorithm that promotes sales of new gadgets has been used in Russia too," the document adopted at a plenary parliamentary session reads.
The Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship has been tasked with asking Russia's consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor to investigate the suspected practices and take the matter to court if needed, the document added.
