Russia's Rosgeo Delegation To Visit South Sudan Next Week - South Sudan Foreign Minister
A delegation from Russia's Rosgeologia state company (Rosgeo) will visit South Sudan's capital of Juba next week in order to assess the potential for investment in the country's mining, Nhial Deng Nhial, the foreign minister of the African country, told Sputnik on Monday
"As I said, we are contemplating close cooperation with the Russian Federation, especially in the area of petroleum and mining, and we have had official delegations that have already visited the Russian Federation, and as a matter of fact, Rosgeologia will be coming next week to Juba to discuss the possibility of providing services to look at the mines in the Republic of South Sudan, their location and quantities, to prepare the ground for investment," Nhial said.
South Sudan has been mired in a civil war that erupted two years after it split from Sudan in 2011. As many as 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict, which led to the largest refugee crisis on the continent. A fragile peace was reached in September after several failed attempts to end fighting.
