Safe City Project to help stop traffic violations

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -6th Sept,2016) : Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Tayyab Hafeez Cheema said on Tuesday that Safe City Project would not only take security to the next level but also help stop violation of traffic rules and regulation.

He was speaking in a meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Standing Committee on Internal Trade Affairs, chaired by LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed and convened by Mujahid Maqsood Butt, while Mian Abdul Razzaq, Zahid Maqsood Butt, Khamis Saeed Butt and Abdul Razzaq Bubber also spoke on the occasion.

The Lahore CTO said that the Project was being launched in Lahore in October. He said that 24-hour monitoring would be conducted through Control and Command Center, adding that this project would bring Lahore on a par with the big cities of the developed world.

Cheema said that Traffic Police was committed to resolving issues being faced by business community. He said that traffic police officials would conduct weekly visits to the city markets. He informed the participants that the City traffic police was putting in its best efforts to keep the vehicular traffic on the move.

It is providing necessary assistance to the government for removal of encroachments, which were the biggest hurdle to the flow of traffic. LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed said that Punjab Safe City Project was a laudable initiative of the Punjab government to ensure security of masses.

He said that the Lahore Chamber would provide maximum help to the Punjab government in the larger interest of the economy. He said that Lahore had attained the status of an international business destination; therefore, it should look like a global capital.

He said that smooth flow of traffic was a must to cut cost of doing business and for timely delivery of goods at their destinations. Maintaining smooth flow of traffic was a big task but the traffic police were managing it in such a good manner, he said, asserting that traffic police role was very vital in the sense that a disciplined traffic flow gave a picture of whole society on the one hand, while on the other hand it played a role in economic turnaround by cutting transportation time of goods carriers.

Nasir Saeed said that liaison between police and the business community was a must and the LCCI was placing a special focus on this particular area. Violation of a ban on protests and rallies on The Mall was also causing massive traffic problems, he said and sought the Chief Traffic Officer's help in this regard.

In the end, the committee convener thanked the CTO and SSP Traffic for sparing time for the cause of bringing excellence in vehicular traffic in Lahore.
