ASHGABAT (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd September, 2021) Saudi Arabia supports the project of a gas pipeline that will connect Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI), Saudi Ambassador in Ashgabat Said Osman Ahmed Suweid told the state-run Neytralnyy Turkmenistan (Neutral Turkmenistan) newspaper.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shares with Turkmenistan the vision of the importance of global energy stability and diversification of energy supplies to global markets through large-scale projects such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline.
The Kingdom cooperates in this area and supports this ambitious project, as it will have a significant positive impact on the economic and social development," the diplomat said.
The 1,800-kilometer (1,118-mile) TAPI gas pipeline will allow Turkmenistan to diversify its gas export and deliver gas directly to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The pipeline's construction in the Turkmen territory began in 2015. It is set to transit 33 billion cubic meters (1.2 trillion cubic feet) per year.
