SPI-based Weekly Inflation Decreases By 0.55%

Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based inflation during the week ended on December 6, for the combined income group registered decrease of 0.55 percent as compared to the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 237.94 points against 239.25 points registered in the previous week, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS)'s data Friday said.
As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined income group in the week under review increased by 5.80 percent.
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
Meanwhile, the SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs8,000 also decreased by 0.39 percent as it came down from 220.26 points in the previous week to 219.39 points in the week under review.
As compared to last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8001-12,000, Rs12,001-18,000, 18,001-35,000 and above Rs35000 also decreased by 0.45 percent, 0.50 percent, 0.
55 percent and 0.61 percent respectively.
During the week under review average prices of 15 items registered decrease, while that of 15 items increased with the remaining 23 items' prices unchanged.
The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included chicken farm (live), potatoes, tomatoes, hi-speed diesel, petrol, bananas, kerosene oil, eggs hen (farm), garlic, rice, onions, rice basmati, wheat flout, red chilly powder and lawn.
The items which recorded increase in their average prices included LPG cylinder, pulse moong (washed), tea, pulse mash, pulse gram, cooking oil tin, shirting, vegetable ghee (tin), sugar, long cloth, powder milk, gur, vegetable gheee (loose) and pulse masoor.
The prices of the commodities that had remained unchanged during the week under review including bread plain, beef, mutton, milk fresh, curd, mustard oil, salt powder, cooked dall, tea prepared cup, cigarettes, georgette, gents sandal, gents chappal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, fire wood, match box, telephone call and bath soap.
