WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) President Donald Trump's bid for a second term in office is on shaky ground because US voters refuse to credit the president for reviving the nation's economy, a Quinnipiac University poll revealed on Tuesday.
Seventy-one percent of voters polled rate the US economy as "excellent" or "good" the biggest total in more than 18 years, yet voters still give trump a negative 38 - 57 percent approval rating, according to the poll.
"The nation's economy is pretty darn good and President Donald Trump's approval numbers are pretty darn awful," Quinnipiac Assistant Poll Director Tim Malloy said in a press release accompanying the poll.
"For the moment, the disparity leaves the president on shaky re-election ground."
American voters give Trump mixed grades for his handling of the economy as 48 percent approve and 45 percent disapprove, the poll said.
Trump's grades on other issues such as trade (39-53 percent) and foreign policy (37-58) percent are decidedly more negative, with 54 percent saying they will not vote to give the president a second term, the poll added.
On the Democratic side, Biden is the only candidate with an approval rating more positive than negative (49 - 39 percent), according to the poll.
