The United Kingdom expects more trade opportunities in its relationship with Japan thanks to the recent EU - Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the government said in a press release on Thursday.
The EPA has been approved by the European Parliament and is expected to enter into force at the beginning of 2019.
"The agreement will help to boost trade between the UK and Japan and is estimated to increase UK GDP by up to 3 billion [$3.8 billion] the longer term. This will help to create more British jobs and give consumers more choice at lower prices," the statement read.
According to the government, in 2017, UK and Japanese leaders agreed to move their security and prosperity partnership to the next level as the United Kingdom prepared to leave the European Union in March 2019.
