Ukraine's Plan on Fixed Gas Transit Contradicts EU Energy Rules - Russian Deputy Minister

Russia is confused over Ukraine's proposals to fix volume and period of gas transit, as they contradict the European Union's Third Energy Package, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoli Yanovsky said Thursday

BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th May, 2019) Russia is confused over Ukraine's proposals to fix volume and period of gas transit, as they contradict the European Union's Third Energy Package, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoli Yanovsky said Thursday.

In April, Naftogaz Chief Commercial Director Yuri Vitrenko said that the company would offer Gazprom to fix transit volume in the amount of 60 billion cubic meters annually for the period of ten years.

"The proposals that we receive from our partners... on fixing certain volumes for a given period of time cause some confusion, since they seem to totally contradict the EU Third Energy Package," the official said at a conference on the Russian-EU energy cooperation.

"We are interested in further use of the Ukrainian gas transit system, but only under acceptable economic conditions and in full compliance with the norms of international law," the deputy minister added.
